The Sound of Music KL Live (13/1/2022)

The Sound of Music - a movie I used to watch as a young girl on TV countless times. I remember one of the songs I sang at my singing recital was "Do, Re, Mi". Now, The Sound of Music Live is back after three years since covid hit the world. This production features our very own Malaysian Von Trapp children. I'll tell you more in a bit as we go along.

I'm doing some work in between, Wei Ken texted me to ask whether I'm interested in watching The Sound of Music, and the answer is yes! Count me in! I read somewhere in The Star that The Von Trapp children are played by our very own Malaysian talents! I'm excited to see how good the children are.

As the day of the musical arrived, Wei Ken and Jessica pick me up from my place and off we go to the train station to pick up Tze Jien. For dinner, we head for Mcdonald's to have a quick bite and fill up our tummies, we wouldn't want to go hungry in the middle of the show.

Once we have reached Istana Budaya, we quickly race to our seats as it is nearing showtime. Wei Ken and I are placed downstairs while Jessica and Tze Jien head over to the seats which we have booked. We missed a tiny part of the show, the scene showing the Sisters at The Abbey talking about Maria. She is tasked to look after the widowed Captain Von Trapp's seven children. Taking up the challenge, Maria heads to the Von Trapp residence to begin her mission.

The iconic scene where The Von Trapp children march out in line to meet their new governess. I finally see the six younger Von Trapp children - played by our Malaysian talents! The moment when "Do, Re, Mi" comes in, I'm singing away! During the intermission, Wei Ken and I head up to join Jessica and Tze Jien, and the view is so much better than the ones we were placed in.

I freak out when The Captain and Maria profess their love to each other, I thought "true love's kiss, works every time!". The scene ends when The Von Trapp family climb the mountains. While waiting for the crowd to leave we take a photo of the stage as the backdrop from the place we are seating and the big banner  just right outside of the theatre.

We are lucky to catch up with one of the children, who played Kurt Von Trapp - Lafayette, we have a chat with his family, a talented and humble kid.

Thank you Wei Ken, Jessica and Tze Jien! First concert of the year is ticked off from the list. Looking forward to the next outing!
