Early life

Katelyn was diagnosed with Cerebral Palsy (spastic diplegia) at 18 months old.

Education

Katelyn went to a few kindergartens before settling in Cameryn kindergarten. In 2004, Katelyn went to SJK (C) Keh Seng 马六甲革成华文小学 and graduated in 2009. In 2010, she went to SMK Tinggi St. David for her secondary education. Like any other students in forms 3 and 5, she undertook public exams in Penilaian Menengah Rendah (PMR) and Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM).

After completing SPM, Katelyn pursued her foundation studies at Sunway College, with the Monash University Foundation Year (MYFY) in 2015, and graduated in 2016. In 2017, she continued her degree studies in BA (Hons) Communication, specialising in Corporate Communication at Sunway University, graduating with a Second Class Honour (Class II).

Advocacy and Model United Nations (MUN)

Katelyn was inspired by the then-Duke and Duchess of Cambridge (now The Prince and Princess of Wales) for her interest in mental health, especially children. Prior to her interest in mental health, Katelyn joined the Model United Nations (MUN) during her time in university and often represented the Sunway team at conferences at various institutions.

With her interest in MUN, her passion for mental health has slowly grown and she is starting to advocate at any MUN conference to spread the message. Katelyn is one of the Young Leaders for UNICEF Malaysia as part of its very first cohort of the Young Leaders Program (YLP).
