MUFY Sharity Carnival 2017 (28/9/17)

After Organisational Communication lecture, I was about to make my way to the college boulevard. I saw Farah Ann was talking to one of the students. I walked up to her to have a small chat with her. "You were one of the athletes I wanted to meet when I first stepped into college two years ago," I said. "Really?" she asked. I nodded my head. "Well, your dream finally came true! I gotta go, Katelyn. You're a lovely person," Farah said giving me one big hug before she headed off.

I saw some my juniors were trying to sell the coupons but I was carrying my bag, it was hard for me to take my purse out since I'm walking with the elbow crutches. I headed to the ice cream stall to get my vanilla ice cream- I had two of them and a cup of coke to help cool off the heat. I walked around the boulevard to see the yummy food and drinks which were on sale.

I bought three packs of waffles and one plate of Terrenganu's famous fish ball satae. I even got a free treat from rojak from James, who is the team leader of the stall. There were some students came by to promote their products especially foods and drinks.

They even had two lucky draws- for the first one, if you wanna get a total amount of RM 2500, you gotta get two "7". Unfortunately, I got 4 and 9 so I didn't win anything but I did get a cuddly koala bear plush, even though it's the prize of the lucky draw. The other one was the normal lucky draw- your name got picked out randomly and you get the prize.

The time was getting late, most of the stalls were packing up to call it a day but some of them were doing their best to attract the customers. Hui Yee and Wang Nan came to the boulevard to promote their Nerf gun game which was held at the third floor of the college's South Building. Soon after, we decided to call it a day when the last customer bought the last package of rojak.

I helped out by cleaning up the table. Ms. Haslina dropped by for a bit to check on the progress. "You even got a new volunteer to help out," she was referring to me, the alumnus of MUFY! Not long after, my primary school friend, Colleen was trying to sell out her nugget celup. James was such a gentleman, "For the lady," he said. Wow, a treat from the juniors. I'll treat them next time around!

When the time was about 3.45pm, it's time to head back to the university building for the last lecture of the day. I cuddled the koala which I got earlier during the carnival. I'm happy that the MUFY Sharity Carnival is getting bigger every year, as a alumnus I'm proud to support my juniors and it's so good to be back at the carnival. It triggered the good old days of my time studying the pre-U course back then.

Hope to see you guys next year at MUFY Sharity Carnival 2018!

My Last Day in MUFY (28/10/16)

Today is the last day for me in Monash University Foundation Year (MUFY). It felt like yesterday when I started to join the the Pre-U programme on 6 July 2015. At that time we had the whole second floor of the South Building to ourselves as if the place it's our "territory". We always bumped into fellow MUFY students when we moved from one classroom to another just like in high school but there was a slight difference. You see in high school, we only bumped into each other along the corridor when we have breaks, gym class or going to the science laboratories but in college when you're heading to the next class, you always bump into your fellow course mates.

By the time I returned for the second semester in January, things were changed by a little- the West wing of the South Building had undergone a renovation  for the Sunway Foundation Programme - Foundation in Science & Technology (FIST) and Foundation in Arts (FIA) while the in the middle of the corridor is the Australian Matriculation (AUSMAT) study room. Our classrooms started to scatter all over the place but at that time it was not so bad, most of them were still in the "territory". We just need to get to the North Building early for our next class, usually it takes about 10 minutes to get there. If you are quick, I think less than five minutes will do the trick. If you are second floor of the East Wing, you just need to go to one floor down then you see a door on your left with the words "Exit to North Building". You just go straight and turn to your right, you'll see the lift.

The third floor used to be A-Levels' "territory". Now it had transform into MUFY's new office! There even have a study room for the students to do their homework during their break time to wait for their next class. I immediately "fell in love" with the place from the moment I  first stepped into the room. Not only for students to discuss their homework, also students can consult with their lecturers if they had a problem in their studies. Also, there is another short cut to the North Building. If you stepped out of the new MUFY office, you your right and walk straight up to a door. Once you entered the short cut, you turn left , you see the A-Level's office. Then, you turn right you will see the General Studies Room, TES office and a classroom in between until you see a wall with an arrow stated the words "North Building". If you want go to North West classrooms turn to your left while North East is on your right. And again, the place it's no longer available as renovation is in the process.

Okay, that's enough about the short cuts to get to your classes the fastest way. MUFY also have some co-curricular activities like the MUFY Games
, Sharity Carnival and MUFY Talent Quest just to name a few. The lecturers in MUFY are super amazing! Especially the English lectures. I remembered during my first and second semesters, my English lecturers- Ms. Felicia Lee and Ms. Lim Ying Ying, used interesting techniques to make the lesson lively. Sometimes we are divided into groups to work with our class mates instead of just sticking with your own friends. Everyone makes new friends right?

If you are not "satisfied" with the score of your subjects in the finals, there is a chance for you an extra semester or which we called the "third semester". Some students think that the third semester is some sort of "remove class" in MUFY but I think it's a chance to prove ourselves that we could better than the first two. The best part is you choose the subject you would like to improve but be warned- not allowed to take more than five. I have no regrets of taking this Pre-University course. It's an experience of a lifetime! University life is waiting for me!

MUFY Sharity Carnival 2016 (1/9/16)

It's the time of the year again- the yearly MUFY Sharity Carnival is on full swing! All classes are reduced to half an hour to ensure all the students to get involved with the event. It's my second year joining the event. I used to think that the carnival was big, in the end I found out it was quite small yet fun! Most games are held at the second floor of the South Building. The food and drinks are all at the Energy Hub.  This time is a bigger event! In conjunction with Australia Week, all the Australian academic programmes in the college- AUSMAT, MUFY and VU Business School come together to educate the students on Australia.

Before the big day, we had a pre sale a week before. It was held at the new location, third floor (South Building). They sold handicrafts and pies. After Globalisation class, my friends and I go to the Energy Hub to check out the yummy foods and drinks. As planned, Joni, Othy and I meet up every Thursday. My homie, Hui Qing, sent me a picture of her stall through WhatsApp. I manage to catch up with her. Before leaving, I said "Hui Qing, could you please reserve some brownies and choclate biscuits for me?" Hui Qing said: "Yes, I'll keep some for you!" I thank her.

Joni, Othy and I go to the foyer a always. Well, gotta do a little bit of course work before you can have fun right? Tomorrow, I'm having a bio topic test so gotta do all the preparations. Although, it does not include in the internal marks, still test on our biological knowledge. At 10am, the three of us head for our respective classes. I'm five minutes late so just left 25 minutes before class ends. At 10.30am, Hui Yee and I head to the Hub for some fun. I buy ice cream, brownies and biscuits as well as coke.

Since Hui Yee is helping at the carnival, she accompanies me for about 10 minutes, it's worth it! It's just me sitting at the old cafeteria, listening to the music. I also bump into my batch mate, Ammelin. The two of us went for another round of "window shopping" at the carnival, I try some tasty food along the way. All thanks to my juniors, Hui Qing and Ryan, who are so kind to let me try some food samples. It's so yummy! Around 11.55am, Ammelin and I left the carnival and head to the library. I kinda stop in my tracks when sign reads All You Need to know About Australia.

The booth is organised by the VU Business School students. They have a game to test your knowledge on how well you know about the Down Under. I manage to get three right. Especially the last one when the question about which two mammals only lay eggs. "What is it?" one of the students asks. "The echidina and the platypus," I answer. "Wow, you're the first one to get it right!" she said. She asks how do I know the answer.  "I watch this Pet Collective YouTube series called Growing Up with Bindi & Robert Irwin," I said.

The rest of the day just chilling at my favourite place on campus- the library! Crikey, what a great day!

Lunch at Rock Cafe (25/7/16)

After Economic class, my new course mates and I were having our break. "Where are you guys going?" I asked. They said "We don't know. It's up to them," giving each other a stare glare. After much deciding, we decided to have our lunch at Rock Cafe where it's a stone's a throw away from the college. They asked me whether I could walk that far. I said "Yes. Besides, I need some exercise, haha!"

We took the lift to the ground floor, as they were catching up with their friends, I bumped into my high school senior, Yi Xin. "Hey Katelyn!" I said "Yi Xin!" She asked where I was going, I told her we were going to Rock Cafe. "Have fun!" I always give my seniors a "goodbye hug". We walked to Rock Cafe, along the way Wei Qi whether I was tired. I said "No, I'm fine!" I thought it was far, I didn't know it's very near. Let's just say 10-15 minutes.

Wei Qi asked me what would I like to eat, I said I wanted a small plate of char kuey teow. Most of us ordered teh O ais limau (ice lemon tea). So everyone was talking, I saw my ex course mate, Tyler and I was glad to bump into him. We had a small chat. After eating, everyone went back to their talking, I got very curious so I looked around the opened space cafe. Wei Qi said "Is it hard to fit in?" I said "Yeah," she said "Don't worry, you'll get use to it!"

At 12.05pm, we walked back to the campus and all of us were sweating after all that walking so we needed to find a place to cool ourselves off by going to the Student Hub where it's at the NUB (New University Buliding). I knew a short cut where we could go to the hub by using the lift because Shenn showed me the way before. Somehow I got my "direction sense" right.

We just chilled and doing our course work. At 1.30pm, it's time for them to head to class while I headed for the library for some "me time" as always. When we entered the library there is a "referendum" for us students to sign in conjunction with the Quiet Campaign which was launched by the campus' library staffs.

It's been a fun day for me.

First Day of Semester Three (19/7/16)

This is it! The third and final semester of my foundation year begins today. While most people think the third in MUFY is "slacking behind" but I think it's another chance to prove ourselves one last time. As the alarm rings at 6am, I get up from my warm bed and head for the washroom to wash myself up for a whole new musical journey.

We leave the house at 7.20am, the traffic is going on smoothly. On the way to college, I thought "A last chance to prove myself, don't blow it! My time to shine one last time!" I want to listen some music on the radio but my parents always listen to the business station, BFM 89.9, that make the secene in my mind more tense up. I didn't really listen what is on the radio so instead I look out through the window just to get my whole body calm.

At 8.15am, we reach the college. Today's class is at the North Building. We take the lift to the first floor. Surprisingly, there are a few students so I double confirm with one of them. They said "Yeah, rest will be coming soon," Sure enough, the classroom is all packed up. Some of them didn't have seats due to the limited space of the classroom. My second class, I go for economic. I'm very lucky to get the same teacher as the previous semester. Class dismisses earlier than usual.

I go to the first floor to renew the student ID, then go back up again. I got to catch up with some of my friends who are doing the third semester. Guess I'm not the only one. As I go to the ground floor, the workers of the college are hanging up signs for the new students who are in the July intake. It kinda reminds me of my first day in college.

Hopefully third time is the charm, as they always say. My new musical journey is about to begin.

Last Day of Semester Two (20/5/16)

Today is the final day of semester two in MUFY (Monash University Foundation Year). We returning students (July/August intakes 2015) and January A also known as Jan A students are facing the final examination next week.

Semester two is a musical journey because there are the high and low notes sometimes I hit the right note but all in all it's great stage for me to grow and experience as a college student for the second time around. Even the one who you just met in this semester will be a total stranger as the times goes by. Throughout the semester , I expected the unexpected. You wanna know why? Because I stepped out of the college for the first time with my friends to have lunch on the first day and the other time was after the trial examination. We had chicken rice.

Also I experienced yet another "friendship breakup" for the 12th year. I realized that sometimes people are not very comfortable in your presence. They look fine on the outside but on the inside they are very uncomfortable. I'm really glad that they made me to see their true colours and being really honest to me. Also I thank them for making me stronger and to never give up.

They are some really understanding friends too. I met Jun Hsiang, Jing Jong (JJ for short), Teng Jie and Benjamin (who I met during orientation last year and somehow we were both reunited). At first, I was a little shy because they are boys and I'm the only girl so it was a bit awkward. After hanging out with them, turns out they are not bad at all! Unfortunately, I didn't join them for lunch for the last time. I felt disappointed but it's okay we will all be reunited.

You know some really have a good hear to listen all your so called "crap". I have a best friend who really has that trait. His name is Poon Kai- he and I met at the MUFY Talent Quest because he was one of the "backstage crews". After the Talent Quest we both bonded a close friendship. Whenever I'm down, he is definitely the first one to be my listener. Oh, did I mention that Yoke Ting is one of my biggest supporter? Well, all those "friendship breakup" I have gone through, she is the first one to give me advice and ways to overcome too. Fariz, Chriz and Athira, on the other hand are the ones who brighten up my day. I still remember we used to mickey out of each other before our Economic class in the first semester.

You might wanna know Dharsh. She is the best sportsperson I ever met. She has all the qualities of a true sportsperson. Who knows she'll be representing Malaysia for the next Olympics?

I have a buddy in this second semester- Nishail, we have four classes together! In class sometimes, we whisper to each other on the lecturers' lessons and the students' behviour, especially the boys. Speaking of classes especially English, I get to work with many of my classmates. But if you ask me, working with Taneesha, Amani, Amar, Aqil, Queenie, Han Huey and Dora, the best experience ever!

Thank you for all the memories you have given me, couldn't ask for more! I wish you all the very best in your final examination and future undertakings. Let me take a quote from the late King of Pop, MJ " If you really want to let out everything you feel, that's the time to do it".

Lunch Out with My Best Friend (11/3/15)

Fundamental Maths ended, Nishail and I went up to the third floor of the college to use the short cut to the university. I almost tripped along the way because the third floor is going under renovation. We used the university's lift to go down. After dropping me off at the new cafeteria, I immediately texted Natasha- she and I used to be in the same Fundamental Maths Unit 1 class when I was in college. I used the WhatsApp app to call her but there was no connection.

Not long after, Natasha came with her friend, Janice. "Hi Kar Marn, how are you?" we hugged each other. "I'm good! How about you?" I asked. "Everything is going well," Natasha said. She introduced me to Janice. "Natasha mentions a lot about you," Janice said. Really? I thought. Joining Janice and Natasha, was Nathania, Natasha's twin sister. We went to the vegetarian food to grab our lunch. "The vegetarian food here is really nice! You should try," Natasha suggested Janice to try the food. "Oh I like your new hairstyle, Kar Marn!" she added.

"Thanks! I got my hairstyle from a Korean hair saloon," I said. "Does that mean is K-Pop inspired?" Natasha asked. "Well maybe?" I laughed.

We went back to our place to eat. While we were eating, "Is that Shaun?" she said. When I turned my head, Shaun and his friend were walking in. That's a surprise! The last time Shaun and I met was during the MUFY Information Week which was a month ago- days before the CNY celebration.

"Hey Shaun, what a coincidence!" I said. "What are you doing here?" Natasha asked. Shaun told us he came to Sunway for a sports event. I looked over the field, there were a few tents.

We asked him if he would like to join us for lunch, Shaun said: "Ladies, I love to but I can't. How about some other time?" I said "Well okay,"

Natasha asked me whether how was my semester two in college. I told her I'm coping well. Around 2.27pm, Janice and Natasha went back to Monash University so I went to the pick up point to wait for my uncle to pick me up (with some help of course!). I'm so happy that I reunited with my best friends after five months. I wish I could do this more often with her.

Monash Apllication Breifing (9/3/16)

After my English was dismissed at 2.30pm, Nishail dropped my bag along the corridor while I headed for the washroom. When I came out, I saw my childhood best friend, Cheyeene was sitting on the bench along the corridor for her next class. I went over to have a small chat with her. Around 2.43pm, I went to SE 2-12 to look for my friends who I will be meeting up. I just saw Ru Tian, who was among the firsts to come out from the class. Oh, did I mention that we celebrated Ru Tian's 19th birthday?

I asked her "Hi, Ru Tian! Where's David & Co?" She said "They're in class. Coming out soon. Well, I gotta go, duty calls!" As Ru Tian made her move, I peeked my head inside the classroom. Jun Hsiang and Teng Jie were heading in the opposite direction as me. These two boys are so mischievous! Not to create an awkward scene, I just casually said "Hey guys!" Jun Hsiang "Kar Marn, what a surprise! Where are you going?" I said I didn't know where to go. I asked them the same thing, they said "Oh, we are going to the university's rooftop garden. It's where the briefing is held right?"

"No, it's at the Jeffrey Cheah Hall- the college itself. Didn't you guys check on elearn where the venue is?" I said. Both boys shook their heads. We took the East Wing's lift but we realized the highest it can go it's the third floor. We had to go all the way down and used the long way to the North Building. We were about to head for the bridge, we bumped into Ru Tian at the Foyer. "Hey, Ru Tian, such a coincidence! Wanna join us at the college's rooftop garden?" Actually we have another birthday surprise for her but she couldn't name it. "Sorry guys, I love to but I can't! I have to finish some touches for the photography club," Ru Tian said.

Wow, that's a lot of forms on the table. I realized she was alone. Jun Hsiang, Teng Jie and I offered to accompany her until the briefing starts. She said "You guys run along. I'll be okay," I asked "Are you sure?" Ru Tian reassured me she's gonna be fine. So the three of us headed to the college's rooftop garden to chill out. The last time I came here was when my class was switched for a day. It's so good to be back again. I felt bad for the boys to accompany me for an hour before the briefing. Luckily, they are understanding but I still feel guilty on the inside.

I had a chat with Michelle- my former English course mate. 10 minutes before briefing, she said "Hey, it's good to have boys to help you out," I whispered "I know right?" We both giggled. The three of us headed for the hall. A weird feeling was the hall was stuffed, usually it is freezing cold! We sat the first few rows to get a clear view of the screen. We even reserved a few seats for our friends as well. It was just a few minutes before the briefing starts, we just mingled around with our friends and caught up with some from the first semester. "Students, please take your seats. Our briefing is about to start soon," Ms. Edith said.

We all soon took our respective places. The briefer said "Students, your hall's air conditioner is not working," Seriously? That's why I felt stuffed when I came in. She gave us a run through our respective course minimum scoring criteria. A form was distributed to all of us and a check list as well. I thought it gonna last for an hour or so. To my surprise, it only lasted for 50 minutes!

Malaysian students were dismissed, just left the international students. I had fun! The fun part is to you get to hang out with your friends after class.

2 February 2016

Monash Information Week - Arts & Social Science (2/2/16)

After economics class, Nieshail and I took the lift to the ground floor. I was planning to go to the new cafeteria where it's just opposite of the college by using the pedestrian walkway. As I was about to make my way up to the stairs, I bumped into Poon Kai. "Hey, Poon Kai! Heading for lunch?" I asked. Poon Kai said "Yes, yes I am! Actually we're heading out of the campus for chicken rice. Join us?" I said "I love to!"

The three of us were at the foyer waiting for our friends to come but they were already one step ahead of us because they were at the chicken rice restaurant. So we just headed to the old cafeteria to have lunch. "Do you want anything?" Poon Kai asked. I told him I brought food from home. He looked at my lunchbox, "Just bread? Kar Marn, are you sure?" he asked again. I reassured him "Yes, I'm sure!"

He told me to wait while he and his friend went to buy the canteen food. I only have about 20 to 25 minutes before the briefing started. Poon Kai asked me why I chose Arts & Social Science even though I was a pure science back in my high school days. "Because I love writing and I love to communicate with people. I'm hoping to be a newscaster one day like the one we see on television," I said. "Yeah, not a bad choice. It does suit you!"

Did I mention that I get a call from the MUFY directory office a few weeks ago? If I don't meet the minimum criteria marks of the course I have chosen as my undergraduate degree programme, that means I'm not qualified to go to Monash University Malaysia Campus, they offered me to try out Sunway University instead because the minimum criteria marks is lower than the one in Monash.

"Actually Sunway University is quite good! But why you wanna choose Monash?" Poon Kai asked. "As you can see Monash University is originally from Australia. Their teaching technique is very different compare to Malaysia. Most lecturers are Malaysians but they use the Australian teaching technique," I said. "I see, I see," he said. I saw a familiar figure at the canteen. "That guy really looks like Shaun!" I thought. I took a closer look, it is Shaun!

Our eyes caught each other's attention which caused me to look away a little. My best friend who I haven't seen for almost four months! As he was heading for the bridge, I called him "Shaun!" Shaun turned around and walked towards my direction, "Hey Kar Marn, how are you doing?" he asked. "I'm doing quite fine, thank you! How about you?" I said. Shaun told me that he came here to collect his results transcript and he had to go soon. We didn't talk much as Shaun was rushing, I felt a little disappointed a little to be honest.

When I checked my hand phone screen, the time stated 11.59am, I just left a minute. "We have to go now," I said quickly packing my stuff. "Take it easy Kar Marn, you'll get there," Poon Kai said. We took the lift up to the second floor where it's our territory- MUFY. We headed to SE 2-11 where the briefing is held. I knocked on the door. "Am I late for the briefing?" I asked. "Just a minute," said Dr. Sharon "Pleas do come in!"

As usual all eyes were on me as I made my way to the seat. "Thank you kind souls," Dr. Sharon said referring to Poon Kai and his friend. "Well, I better head off to my Science briefing have fun!" Poon Kai said as he patted my shoulder. I thanked him for his help. Dr. Sharon who is the acciosiate professor of the School of Arts in Monash Univerisity Malaysia campus. She explained which courses are available at the campus. They have majors in Communication, Gender Studies, Global Studies, Pyschology and Writing while the minors are Journalism Studies and Media Studies.

I listed all the things I need to know regrading of the courses which I'm gonna pursue after my foundation year. The briefing lasted for only half an hour. That was quite short but I have questions to ask so I stayed back for awhile. Dr. Sharon gave some of us a brief on the combined degree which is Bachelor of Business and Commuincation. "I'm hoping to be a newscaster someday. That means I take a major in Communication and a minor in Journalism Studies?" I asked.

Dr. Sharon said "Yes! We encouraged our students to pursue two majors and a minor but most students pursue a major and a minor throughout their undergraduate studies," Well, that was interesting! I hope I will get through but first I have to focus on studies which I'm currently doing now. You never might know what the future will bring you.

College Reopen (11/1/16)

After two months of the long semester break, it's time for MUFY students to head back to college for semester two. I can't wait to meet my friends. The alarm clock rings at 6.00am, I wake up from the warm bed, the date states on the iPod's screen is 11 January. That means is the beginning of semester 2 of MUFY.

We leave the house at 7.03am to avoid the traffic congestion. But it didn't turn out well. When we reach the ground floor of the condominium, the traffic is very terrible! Cars keep on cutting into the line. A car almost knock us down. My mum is really frustrated by the awful action of the driver. The traffic congestion continues until the traffic light. We take the road at the National Palace as a short cut so I won't be late for college.

Well, last year of college! I thought. At 8.30am, my dad drops me off at Sunway University's pick up point because I'm heading to the library. I don't have any classes until afternoon so I have the whole morning to myself by chilling at the library's drink and phone area. It's early as most classes start at 8.30am, so I have the whole place to myself for awhile.

To kill boredom, I bring a novel with me so time can pass by quickly as I read. At 10.40 am, I text my best friend, Ru Tian. She told me that she is at the college's foyer and will be going out with her friends for lunch. Speaking of lunch, I can feel my tummy rumbling when I reply her text through WhatsApp. I look around as I spot a girl who is done talking with her friend over the phone.

"Excuse me, could you bring me over to the college please? It's just opposite of the university," I say. "Sure of course!" the girl says as we walk out of the library. We are heading for the stairs, suddenly my phone rings. It's a call from Ru Tian. I answer the call "Hi Ru Tian, I'm just at the steps of the university," She says "I'm walking over now," What? I just exited the library. "I found you!" Ru Tian adds as we both hang up the phone conversation.

Ru Tian walks over and we greet each other with a hug. I thank the girl who helped me earlier. I saw Michelle and Suk Ying not far from where we are standing. Everyone is so happy to see each other after the two months break. We are walking to the foyer so she told me that she and her friends are going out of the campus for lunch.

Out of the campus for lunch? I thought. Throughout semester 1, I have never been out of the campus. The only place I went was the new cafeteria at the university. Other times, I just ate lunch along the empty corridor alone. Since I'm graduating in college in five months, I decide to give myself a shot. What is the feeling of stepping out of the campus.

"Do you mind if I join you for lunch?" I ask Ru Tian. She gives me a questioning look. "Are you sure?" she asks. "Yeah, I'm sure! Besides, we're graduating in five months so why not give it a shot," I reassure her. After much discussion, we decide to dine at After Black cafe where it's opposite of the college. While I'm on my way, I bump into my high school friend, Jacqueline. I haven't seen her for almost two years since we last saw each other back in high school.

We have to cross the road to get to the cafe. When we arrive, the cafe is packed with students. Everyone is sitting on high stools. Well, I'm not good at sitting higher seats so the waiter arranges us to sit at a lower one which is right at the corner of the cafe. Although it's a bit tight, we still manage to squeeze our way in. I sit with Ru Tian while my opposite is David.

Since its my first time here, the waiter recommends us their signature dishes. Teng Jie, David and I order carbonara pasta with cheese. Ru Tian orders salad with salmon, I have a few bites and it's really good. I order an Oreo cheesecake but I have to take it away because I'm running late for my first class of the second semester- Fundamental Mathematics.

Once I'm done with my food, Ru Tian accompanies me to the North Building. We bump into Justine along the way so I ask her where is her classroom. "It's NW-TR-1-3," she says. Oh, it's next to my class! Ru Tian and I hug each other before leaving. When I step into the classroom, my former economic course mates as well as globalisation are in the same class. That's a surprise!

Here's another one- Tyler's accounting classroom is just next to mine which is English. Too many things happen on the first day of college! My new friend and English course mate, Mal (who kinda reminds me of the character in Disney Descendants), accompanies me to the ground floor where I usually wait for my uncle to pick me up.

My musical journey in college is about to begin.

MUFY Talent Quest 2015 (2/10/15)

I haven't been on stage for a year since I last performed back in secondary school when I was completing my senior year. Today MUFY held its very own annual talent quest. We called it MUFY Talent Quest. Before you entered the competition, you have to go through an audition just like any singing competition which we watch on television. The audition was 10 days ago and the results was announced a week before the competition.

Little did I know, I got in! I was so happy! I didn't expect to be in the competition, my aim is just to have fun and be in the spotlight once again. Well there was another surprise. My senior, Marverne got in as well! He didn't get through at first but he was told at the last minute, I was happy for him too. Our first performance as senior-junior, what's more, we were both singing solo! Well I picked If Someday by Malaysia's Queen of Love Songs- Fish Leong. While Marverne on the other hand sang Feeling Good and I've Got the World On a String by Michael Buble.

Before the show started, we had a rehearsal just to make sure everything was in tip-top shape. All performers were getting a run through. At 2 pm, everyone started to fill the hall in while performers were seated in front. The emcees introduced the first performer who is a boy band called the SPLURS. They sang a song by Dani California. The second performer sang a Mandarin song. Well, I guess I wasn't the only one who is singing Mandarin song. We even had a silent comedy which was performed by Aaron and Jason Lum (AJ)

Before it was my turn, I asked Marverne to record a video of my performance so I can show it to my mum. "Yeah, okay! I can do that," he said. After Marverne's and Ah Ri's turn, it was my turn to perform but I went to the washroom at that time which left the audience in a awkward situation.

Quickly, I headed back to the stage. To make it up to the audience, I sang a short verse of Fish Leong's latest single. Then came the main part of the performance. After I sang If Someday, I sang short verse of J'adore. After my performance, the audience wanted more but the emcee said "Sorry, we're running out of time! Thank you Kar Marn for that amazing performance. Let's give her around of applause!"

The crowd cheered and clapped as I left the stage. I went over to hug my seniors and they were proud. "You did great Kar Marn!" my seniors said as I headed back to my seat. "Hey Marv, did you record the performance?" I asked. "Sorry Kar Marn, I forgot to record because I was too starstruck and amazed by your performance. Anyway, I'm so proud of you!" Marverne said. Tori chimed in "Yeah girl, you did a job well done! You made us proud!" She gave me a squeeze on the shoulder.

After the last performance which Darren and Tori performed Toxic by Britney Spears, a special performance was arranged. A lecturer showed her hidden talent! Well, even lecturers have their specialties besides teaching. After that, Mr. Prakesh- Malaysia's famous photographer, Youtuber and comedian came up to the stage to receive a token of appreciation from Ms. Helen James. He praised all performers for a job well done. "I would like to give a shout out to Kar Marn. The crowd cheered as they heard my name. "You really inspired all of us today. I sent a video of your performance to my girlfriend," Mr. Prakesh said.

The crowd cheered even louder while Tori gave me a proud squeeze on the shoulder as Darren and Marverne as well as Amber proudly look on their junior. Mr. Prakesh made a joke on the three language songs. It was time for the prize giving ceremony. One by one, the finalists went up to the stage. As the emcee announced my name, I proudly walk over to the stage and stood next to Marverne. He leaned over and whispered "Great job Kar Marn. I'm so proud of you!" I whispered back "You did a great job too!"

It's time to announce the top three winners of this year's MUFY Talent Quest. Third prize went to Allyson and her dance group while the second prize went to Darren and Tori- the power couple singers! First prize went to AJ- the champion of this year's Talent Quest. We took a group photo with Mr. Prakesh. Performers hugged and praised each other for a job well done. We even take selfies too!  "fans" came up to the stage to take photos with the performers. Even a young girl asked me to take a photo with her.

Food and refreshments were served after that. The official photographer of the event took a photo of me. I had fun at the Talent Quest. I had the golden opportunity to make comeback to centre stage after a year. Thank you to parents, seniors, juniors as well as friends who came to support all of us at MUFY Talent Quest. See you guys next year!

MUFY Sharity Carnival 2015 (3/9/15)

It's been a month since my secondary alma mater- St. David's High School held a carnival and now Sunway College had one as well! We called it MUFY Sharity Carnival. The word Sharity is the combination of the word share and charity. This marked my first ever carnival in college. Clad in dark blue Sunway College t-shirt and a pair of grey jeans with a pair of blue Vans shoes, I made my way to the first class which was Globalization.

At 9.30am, I informed my English teacher, Ms. Felicia that our usual English classroom will be used as the Haunted Class for the carnival. "Thank you for informing me, Kar Marn," First, Fariz and I hang out for awhile until 10.00am because he wanted to meet up with his friends. Hui Yin and I waited for our next class in 30 minutes. Ru Tian came along so we took some pictures to kill our time. At 10.30am, we went class SW2-2 for English.

At 11.00am, it was time for us to head down to the Energy HUb to have some fun! All classes were reduced to half an hour because they wanted us MUFY students to join in the fun! Especially semester one students who are in the July and August intakes.

"Hi, sorry I'm late!" I said. "No, no it's okay! You're just in time! Come and join my friends," Athira said as she led Ru Tian and I to a place. After settling my stuff down, Ru Tian and I went to the first stall to buy our food so I bought noodles. After having a few mouthfuls, I was totally stuffed! Athira and I just walked around while Ru Tian helped her Physics teacher at a stall where they sold jellies.

After buying some stuffs, we went back to our place and stretched our tired legs. Athira and I tried the jelly which I bought earlier and it was really good! It looked reddish colour on the outside but when you scooped it up it is green. Hui Yin dropped by for awhile then she rushed to the library because she had some work to do. So just left Ru Tian and I. We walked around the stalls, looking for some food and souvenirs which will fit our budget, I mean the coupons.

A Hena stall attracted a lot of people and the queue was super long. Ru Tian decided to try so I said "I'll wait for you at the Student Service Department," I said. "Okay," she said. After waiting for 25 minutes, I got bored so I went out just to have another look around. Suddenly, I saw a familiar person. It's my senior, Shu Yie! "Hey Shu Yie !" I said. "Oh hey Kate! Wanna hang out with us?" he asked. I nodded my head and said "Yes!"

We went back to SSD to get my stuff and the rest of the day I spent time with my seniors- from both high school and college. Suddenly, the deejay said "Please enjoy our national anthem, the Negaraku. Someone wanted this song to be played," As the national anthem was played, everyone stood up and sang. When the song ended, everyone cheered.

Around 3pm, under a watchful eye of Shu Yie, he escorted me to the car. My uncle picked me up and headed home. The best day of my life! My first carnival in college would be a memorable one.
